Our History

1976

In 1976, when advanced electronics barely existed, Daniel Ibáñez brought knowledge from the USA and built the first electronic bulb scoreboard, which became a benchmark in the sports world — especially in football — after being acquired by FC Barcelona. During the early years, we specialised in designing and manufacturing electronic scoreboards for sports such as football, karate, canoeing, swimming, athletics and basketball, notably including the one used by Joventut de Badalona.

1986

With the arrival of LED technology, we opened new opportunities and diversified into the transport sector. In 1986, we installed the first LED panel in Spain at La Coruña Bus Station, and developed our own software for departure and arrival management.

1995

Daniel Ibáñez and Joan Puig met, connecting both personally and professionally. They soon signed a collaboration agreement for LAFORJA INTERNACIONAL — specialised in software and technology — to commercialise technological solutions in the transport field. Notably, the launch of the first smart monitor: a CRT monitor with an integrated CPU and MSDOS operating system, the precursor to today's Smart TVs. This advance ran on IDS (Image Data System) software, a pioneering solution of its time.

2000

With the multiplex cinema boom in Spain, LAFORJA INTERNACIONAL launched IDS Multicines, a content management system designed to dynamically display movie posters, showtimes and other information in cinema venues, digitalising visual communication in these leisure spaces. In an era without Ethernet networks or the internet, SVGA smart monitors running MSDOS were controlled via serial connection. This technology was used for the opening of the UCC Alcampo multiplex cinema in Seville — with 22 monitors — representing a major technological achievement.

2007

LAFORJA SISTEMAS SL is founded as the technology division of LAFORJA INTERNACIONAL, while the latter continues its focus on retail. LAFORJA SISTEMAS specialises in data control and information solutions for the transport, hospitality and corporate channel sectors, developing both proprietary software and hardware. At this point, management and decision-making passes to the next generation — the children of Daniel and Joan.

2017

LAFORJA SISTEMAS firmly establishes itself, particularly in the hotel sector, internal channels and — above all — bus stations and displays for urban stops. During these years, the company has built a solid, specialised team of professionals across technology, commercial, financial and administrative areas.

2021

The flexible structure of LAFORJA SISTEMAS allows the company to overcome the impact of the pandemic, using that time to invest in innovation and enhance the IDSMedia software with new features. With improvements in data management, versatility and the ability to adapt to projects across all sectors, the new IDSMedia TW design enables access to major projects such as the digital signage for the Generalitat de Catalunya, the bus stations of Extremadura and the AC Hotels chain.

2025

In 2025, LAFORJA SISTEMAS takes a strategic step and reinvents itself under the LFJ brand, with the aim of strengthening its image and focusing on its key sectors. With 30 years of experience, LFJ turns its attention to the challenges of the future, such as artificial intelligence and low-energy solutions. We already have innovations such as autonomous solar-powered e-ink displays, zero-consumption digital screens and bus parking control systems with cameras and our own AI software. At LFJ, we are ready for this new chapter, embracing the technological revolution without ever losing sight of our closeness to clients and our commitment to delivering global solutions, services and support.
